PLANA IN JOHANNESBURG

15.09.2015

Kloof Road House in Johannesburg, South Africa is a result of the design collaboration between Nico van der Meulen Architects and M Square Lifestyle Design. The brief for the project requested a large family home maximizing indoor-outdoor connection and making the most of the surrounding views. With every room in the house featuring extensive glass windows, linking the home with the landscaped garden is guaranteed. Werner van der Meulen used morphed steels shapes that wrap around the structure, giving it its bold appearance.  A complex layout serves the modern living needs of the inhabitants: “The double volume living room and dining room, kitchen and lanai are situated in an open plan area and coherently merge into one another with a polished concrete floor extending to the lanai. Kloof Road House has four en suite bedrooms; two children’s bedrooms and a guest bedroom situated downstairs and the main bedroom suite located upstairs. A pajama-lounge and playroom is located upstairs and overlooks the double volume living spaces and kitchen, leading onto a large north-facing balcony that forms the roof of the lanai, offering views of the garden and other distant views. “Sustainable features of the residence include a water-based under floor heating system and solar panels.
