Very Wood, 2014
Gerla is an armchair in ash, with the back in honeycomb composed of plywood elements linked together with finger joints and fixed to the seat. The seat is upholstered and covered in fabric and the cushion for the back is optional. Our studio is close located to industrious “Chair District” where, until a few years ago, about 30% of the wooden chairs around the world were realized.
Starting form this premise we can better understand the brief we set designing the new project: ‘design a wooden seat apparently unrelated to the sector, conceiving and producing it in a completely different way from the tradition of carpenters’. The feeling that we wanted to give was that of a nest, a comfortable back that would develop around the person expressing the warm and naturalness of wood. This had to become the central theme of the product.
